About Us - History of De-Solv-itŪ
De.Solv.It® was first developed as a citrus based solution owned and patented by the American company Orange-Sol Group of Companies Ltd. It was discovered in the 1930's when a Californian dentist noticed that the oil from the skin of an orange he was eating removed previously impervious resin stains from his hands. De.Solv.It® went on to be used within the medical profession for removing sticky plaster from skin and cleaning contaminated wounds for over 60 years. De.Solv.It® was then selected by both the US Coastguard and UK Authorities to help in the clean-up operation after the Exxon Valdez and Sea Empress oil spills. Over 500,000 gallons of product was used to clean shoreline, personnel & equipment.
In the mid 80's, Orange Sol's President and son-in-law to the founder of De.Solv.It® came over to the UK and met with Mykal's (then Chairman) the late Mike Dent. A strategic alliance was formed between the two companies and Mykal acquired exclusive European rights to manufacture and distribute the De.Solv.It® product range. Mykal have used their knowledge of the original De.Solv.it® technology to further develop and manufacture a definitive range of products by utilising special blends of natural and synthetic ingredients that are safe to both the user and the environment.
In 1993, Mykal introduced De.Solv.It® Universal Stain Remover & Pre-Wash to the Retail sector. Over the ensuing years this has gone on to become one of the top selling stain remover brands in the UK, being stocked and sold successfully by the majority of leading grocery multiples. De-Solv-it® is now available in a variety of formats including liquids, aerosols, wipes and gels.
The brand continues to make ground in both decorating sundries and 'Hi-Tech' cleaning chemicals with more and more key products, brand names and trade marks being added to the group; the main ones being DIY award winner Sticky Stuff Remover; the unique and totally safe paint stripper Great Strip and the Tuffs range of impregnated household wipes.
Mykal's ability to manufacture sophisticated blends of safe chemicals has generated dramatic growth in the business with a broad spectrum of blue-chip customers that encompass every retail sector, industrial sector and exclusive private label arrangements.
Industrial
The industrial range offers safer alternatives to traditional hazardous solvents such as Trichloroethane, Acetone, Methylene Chloride and IPA, which have been targeted by Environmental and Safety legislations. The range covers every aspect from maintenance cleaning to sophisticated process degreasers. The products are extremely effective against oils, greases, bitumen, wax and silicone sealants, and carry Approvals from NATO, DEFSTAN, DEFRA, Aerospace, Automotive and Food industries.
